What counts as melee combat?
Because outnumbering says its Melee combat exclusively.
Yet if I have a 1" threat range and my second rank models cant reach, are they in range?
Because the rule for moving in melee say yes, but thats to move into engage.
Situation was this. I had 8 models in two ranks against one huge model. Due to heavy rains I could only move 2" to get into engaged and could not get there. Does that mean for outnumbering 8-1 I count the whole squad or only those within their threat range?
We have a playing building a rat slave horde if it counts the whole squad...woo boy nobody is beating him on enhancements.
Bonus question: What is the LoS from a flying model? It does not say but its 9" above the battlefield so I'm guess its a 9" diagonal downwards but it does not say.

I was the one with the Huge Golem, my thought was that only those who were in a position to attack count for the outnumbering, and those who were out would be able to make there move but that would count as there action. The rule as written says something like that you can make you base move as a pile in then attack. So my thinking was that if you are not going to be able to move far enough to attack use your action to move, if that now gets you engaged you now count for outnumbering but do not have an attack this round. That feel fair to me, but I can not back it with the rules.
I'd say only models that can actually make an attack (so those that are in range) contribute to the outnumbering ComSit. The movement is meant to allow a unit to engage more models wÃth that movement (or get mode models within striking distance). It'd be kinda unbalanced (like you mention) if after making that movement, that those moved models are engaged.
Edit: then again, re-reading the outnumbering part in the core book. It indeed plainly states something along the lines of you getting a larger bonus the more model you have in the melee compared to your opponent. Sooo..... It sounds like you may need to get some way of horde clearing to swiftly reduce that bonus.
Also, you don't necessarily need to beat your friend on enhancements, as long as you can play even it shouldn't be that bad to keep up. We've found that getting in some hard cover can go a long way.
As for the bonus, I.. vaguely remember reading somewhere that their LOS is pretty great and that they can see just about anything that's not completely blocked from LOS due to terrain (such as hiding within a roofed building). The 9"diagonal sounds like a good option too, imo. I think that's what we'll be using. 'Least until an official statement gets made.
