after a third game our little group encountered some more rules/interactions that weren't 100% unambiguous, so hence, more questions!: 1. Does casting power on yourself as a reaction cost the entire reactionary activation? (since self-casting powers doesnt normally take your action)
2. Does the restriction on moving and fireing weapons apply to pistols in melee? (i.e. can you charge an enemy and fire your guns point-blank? [moving at more than 1x speed with a weapon that has a higher strenth that the toughness of the model equipped with it])
3. When are battleplans activated? How do battleplans interact that affect the same thing? (like time of day, weather, etc)
4. Are downed models affected by a failed morale check? (i.e. if they are recovered using first aid or something similar, while the rest of the squad fled, do they also flee when they get up?)
5. Can you voluntarily split up squads on the table by walking out of cohesion?
6. If you charge an enemy squad, can one of your models hold an action to use First Aid to pick up one of your guys after the combat should they fall down? Or do all of your models have to do a combat action when you attack an enemy squad?
7. Does a charging model have to take the shortest straight path towards it’s target?
8. Chameleon in melee seems pretty strong, since models mover very little while combat is going on. Does this work as intended?
9. Can all squads engaged in a melee fight with a single action/reaction?
10. We tried playing a 2v2 game which worked reasonably well, except we had some discussion in how we should do initiative. Is there any way the devs have tried to do this and what worked best?
11. If a humanoid class with a casting trait (priest, wizard, sorcerer, etc) gets a power via another way (fey hybrid, forbidden lore, etc) do they cast that power with ther casting ability, or at base humanoid?
Self Casting powers dont use your action. so no.
Yes, the rules apply to moving at x3 and using your pistols. There are cases (mostly later ages) that moving and firing at x3 are possible.
Battleplans effect things at different times depending on what they are. If there are two that affect the same thing, roll a die to determine who goes first. (Side Note- It's interesting because this should happen very rarely. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. I'd almost prefer that they cancel each other out. So something to look at in the future).
Downed models are not affected by morale. They most likely will be dead. When they get up if they can recover they will be on their own.
There are no rules to purposely leave squad cohesion. If you do get yourself out of squad cohesion there is a penalty of no longer being able to gain Enhancements for the Combat Situation. Rules for this on page 12 of the Core Rules where it also talks about what happens if you get separated (like from failed morale checks etc.)
You can always hold an action. The problem for first aid is that you cannot re-activate the same squad. So first aid responders need to be in a separate squad trailing behind.
You can take a longer route to charge but there is no benefit for it. You would lose your charging enhancement. Page 13 Core Rules
yes, cover in combat is working as intended. Remember though that this would only give you Defensive Combat Situation, not Offensive.
yes. All squads in the melee are activated as a single activation/reaction for both sides of the combat.
2vs2 Initiative. This is covered in the 1st Age Campaign which has rules for more players. Essentially whoever finishes the round first goes first in the next game round, finishing 2nd gets you to go second and so on. Challenging the Initiative is more interesting because the player going last gets first choice whether or not to challenge someone for their placement, followed by the second to last player and so on. If they win the challenge they swap turn order with that player. Once in a challenge the player cannot be again be a part of a challenge.
If you get another type of casting, you cast it directly the way the type of casting says. If you just get a power? Well you don't have any rules for channeling etc, so you cast with your base ability using your domains difficulty and mortal threshold.
