I came across a rather silly idea, but wasn't sure it functioned entirely how I imagine it. Probably not, but you don't know until you ask.
The basic idea is that Insekts can take Traits that give them the Ability Holding Grasp. This is mainly a combat buff via denying CSE and any Movement to the Grasped model, but the second paragraph states that if the Grasper is 2 or more Sizes above the Graspee, they can move up to x2 Movement and take the Grasped model with them. Holding Grasp can be removed by a Strength v. Strength check, or by landing a Crit on the Grasper, and lasts as long as the two models are Engaged. Presumably, the Grasper Breaking Away also removes the condition, but triggers a Provoked Attack.
Enter Flight.
Flying to Above Combat costs 3" of Movement, very doable in most cases. Above Combat rules state that if, for any reason, a model falls to the ground, they take a Strength hit equal to their Movement multiplier +3. Add a d6 for your CRN and resolve as normal.
I suppose I have several questions here:
Can a model with Holding Grasp voluntarily end it?
Does Breaking Away forcibly end the Grasp? If so, does the formerly Grasped model gain Enhancement on its Provoked Attack?
Can you take a model without Flight to Above Combat via Holding Grasp?
If you can forcibly take a model to Above Combat, one without Flight, and subsequently release them via Breaking Away(or voluntarily, if the first point is true), whose multiplier is used for calculating the Strength hit?
In short, is it possible to bring enemy models into the sky and then hum them at the ground? If so, how much ouch does it hurt?
Thank you for taking the time to look at this. This system is wild and the ride's only just begun.
So there is a couple things are work here.
First off...........
Yes you could voluntarily end a holding grasp.
Freeing yourself from a holding grasp would not grant a provoked attack unless you leave the threat range of the model (and if it still has an action left to make the provoked attack).
Yes, if you had flight you would be able to take a model above the ground. The issue you would have is you could just not leave combat where you entered into melee combat so it may create provoked attacks from other squad members of your target. If you did leave combat you would be leaving the target behind unless..............
You were two sizes larger and then can move at x2 movement which could take your target airborne. You would use your movement modifier of x2 if they are dropped.
Being two sizes larger and having a mounted charge available most likely due to trample. This would allow you to fly into the target-pick it up-and fly back up in a single activation.
Trampling Flyers have been a big hit during playtesting as they dive bomb their targets and then return to the air. Of course if you pick up your target it will slow you down!
"This system is wild and the ride's only just begun."
Yes, the goal was to create a game that just let you go to create. Conceptually easy to "pick traits in your domain and be done" but to always have some new concept or discovery to be made and go as deep into the rabbit hole as you dare.
BTW I don't think the in house playtesters ever came up with Holding Grasp and Flying during our playtest sessions..... Can't wait to see this in a game, and what the opponents will do to compensate and stop it.
