Hi there,
I'm quite new to Genesys and trying to create my first faction "swamp frogs".
Biest is the domain of choice, but I decided to not take a kingdom, since none of them where fitting well.
Then I selected traits for my Faction:
- 6pts - combat survival
- 6pts - swamp rat
- 6pts - swamp battle training
- 4pts - heavily mixed heritage
- 4pts - agile
- 0pts - field scavenger
Together with the base charecteristics (costing 0pts) I receive a base species cost of 26pts?!
Now to classes: I want to create a level 2 class. Therefore I have to double my base species cost (->52pts) for getting one attack. This has been mentioned and explained several times here, so it does not seem fair for a newbie, but I'll go with it.
Icing on the cake is now creation of a level 2 class with Monster X. Do I still count the 52pts for the base species? Since all traits get replaced and my base characteristics are 0pts it seem like I pay crazy points for nothing. And it would just depend on the selected classes I don't get with a monster.
Concrete example:
I want to create salamanders, that can be ridden by my level 1 classes.
Therefore I select Monstrous Beast (20pts) and for the 4 traits I select:
- 12pts - heavy war monster
- 12pts - gigantism (from biests; because it needs to be larger than my riders)
- 8pts - monstrous sprinter
- 3pts - heavy hide
As for class options I can select:
- 10pts - increase characteristics (I selected movement)
- 4pts - fierce intensity
So what would be the final cost of this class?
2x26 + 20 + 12 + 12 + 8 + 3 + 10 + 4 = 121
2x0 + 20 + 12 + 12 + 8 + 3 + 10 + 4 = 69
20 + 2x(12+12+8+3) + 10 + 4 = 104
Additional note:
My level 1 class are at 30pts.
My level 2 class which will be a larger frog-warrior is at 78! With still only 1 wound it does not represent the warrior at all in comparison to level 1. Don't to restart discussion on this topic here since the monster-stuff is more confusing to me right now. But I don't see how 2 additional (1 is included in the 78) traits can justify the huge jump in cost. I would have understood if it would be +1 attack AND +1 wound, but with only the attack they die like every other level 1 model, just costing more than twice as much...
Page 81 has your answer:
"When you take Monstrous Beast as a Class Trait: This
allows you to select four Traits from the Biests Domain
and/or the Monsters of Myth and Legend section. When
doing so, these Traits replace your Faction Traits, and
only affect the Class you are creating."
Based on this, your third calculation is the correct one, for a total cost of 104pts.
Aside from that, it seems like you're having some difficulty putting your faction together. Feel free to throw up another thread dedicated solely to that, or post on the Discord. You've got some neat things going on already, don't get discouraged!
so it would be calculation 2 then?
About your monster you replace your faction traits with X so you also remove associated point costs.
