Hi, So excited to have my rule books and get stuck in to creating my first faction. i just have a couple of questions about Lineage traits and Devolutionary Traits. I think I just need reassurance that I have it straight in my mind.
Firstly with the lineage traits. If I select 1st lvl traits from 2 lineages as faction traits will all my classes gain those traits, even if I give a class a new bloodline? For example if I select Troglodyte as a faction bloodline and then select Saurian cunning as a lineage trait, does that mean that all my classes get the increase Command 1 effect of the Saurian trait? And following on from this if I were to give a class a new bloodline trait would it still retain any Troglodyte lineage traits from the faction traits? If so do they all stack?
Secondly with regards to the Devolutionary traits. I see that they do not stack with traits outside their Devolutionary branch, presumably this means that the lineage faction traits still apply to them, they just wont "stack" with Devolutionary Traits? So, using the example from my previous question, if I had a class which took the Thunder Lizard trait as a class trait would the Saurian Cunning trait still apply to them? Also, if I had taken the Troglodyte bloodline as a faction bloodline then my thunder lizard would presumably gain the increase Strength 1 that comes with that, but then if I took the Primal strength Devolutionary trait as a class trait am I right in thinking that I would actually have increase strength 2 because the Devolutionary trait and the bloodline trait wont stack, but the class trait takes priority?
Sorry there is a lot of questions there. I want to make sure that I have it right before I start to build a second faction. I am desperate to have a game and can't wait until I have other people to play with lol
There is a lot to take in and I think I am instinctively trying to make it way more constraining than it is. I am not used to so much choice! It didn't even occur to me to make a faction entirely out of a Devolutionary line! there is so much creative choice and I have only looked at the Reptilia so far. I can see myself developing a bit of a faction creation habit. 😂
That's awesome thank you. You have answered everything perfectly. I'm sorry there were so many questions.
1. Firstly with the lineage traits. If I select 1st lvl traits from 2 lineages as faction traits will all my classes gain those traits, even if I give a class a new bloodline?
Lineage Traits will remain and can be taken no matter what bloodline you have. Bloodline traits are only removed if you select a second one, so that you may only have one set of Bloodline Traits active at any time for any model.
So the answer would be yes, models with a Troglodyte Bloodline can have traits from a different lineage, like Saurien in the above example.
Traits only stack with each other if they are in same Evolutionary Branch. Reptilia are a little unique to the other Domains in that Bloodline traits will stack with other traits from within the same lineage.
Traits from other Lineages do not stack. They still apply but will not stack with traits from another lineage. So having an Increase Command 2 in one lineage, and from another Lineage having an Increase Command 1, would only grant you the better of the two.
2. Secondly with regards to the Devolutionary traits. I see that they do not stack with traits outside their Devolutionary branch, presumably this means that the lineage faction traits still apply to them, they just wont "stack" with Devolutionary Traits?
Correct. And always just take the highest of the two increases.
So yes you can take Saurien Lineage traits that will apply to your Dinosaurs to create something unique, like an entire faction of Dinosaurs, or Dinosapiens once you start really diving in. The Devolutionary Branches just prohibit taking Bloodline traits.
Essentially,
Traits
1. Any model may only have traits from one Bloodline. Taking a second one, removes bloodline traits from the other.
2. Lineages are always open to be taken and applied to your faction. If taken and you have a Bloodline in that Lineage, progression into 2nd Tier and Ancestral Traits is easier. Otherwise it takes 2 Traits from the previous tier to unlock the next tier up.
3. Devolutionary Branches cannot have Bloodlines.
Stacking
Bloodlines stack with their own lineage
Different Lineages do not stack with each other.
Devolutionary traits from anywhere else beyond their Devolutionary Branch do not stack.
However, traits can still be applied but just don't stack with each other.
I hope I answered them all. Let me know if I missed anything. (or messed it up, there is a lot of construction work being done just outside and its a little noisy this morning.)
