So I am working on my second force idea, and am thinking of doing a Dwarf army, with there Dwarfism Branch Trait they are able to have access to cannons for 60pts by taking a 2nd level trait. I think, but just want to make sure if I want to take under the Heavy Military Weapons Branch the 2nd level trait Advanced Military Weapons I have to take one of the first level ones, even if I already have unlocked Cannons (from the Dwarfism branch)?

That is what I was afraid of, it is proving to be a major stumbling block. Not so much for the cannons, but for the firearms. I can give them the Dwarven access to pistols and rifles, but if I want to give them any upgrades I will have to take the exact same trait (but cost more points) or give them a weapon I will not use (the blunderbuss) as those are the only options for level 1, I do not have any use for either, but want to upgrade my rifles with some of the level 2's. Is there any work around that anyone knows? It does not feel right that going with there faction ability is penalizing me so much.
yeah so the cannon out of dwarf branch wouldn't count for heavy siege weapons,
however you can take, Engineering Marvels 6pts: Dwarven Siege Weapons 1
which will give a flat strength increase of 1 to all siege weapons.
Dwarven Siege Weapons X: Dwarves are masters it comes to combat engineering. Heavy Military Weapons gain an Increase Strength 1
